1. What does it take to create good graphic design? To create a good graphic design you must implement the elements and principle of design.

2. What is the difference between elements and principles? Elements of design are what make up a composition and principles define how they are arranged.

3. Name the six elements of design. The six elements of design are line, shape or form, space, color, texture, and value.

4. What can lines aid in, when alone or combined with other shapes? Lines can aid in readability, appearance, organization, and guidance of the eye.

5. Which lines communicate a feeling of rest? Why do you think? Horizontal lines convey a feeling of rest because they lie on a horizontal plane imitating a person at rest.

6. Vertical lines communicate a feeling of what? Why do you think? Vertical lines create a feeling of height because they extend above other objects.

7. What lines suggest a feeling of movement? Why do you think? Diagonal lines suggest a feeling of movement because they converge on certain points and draw attention to them.

8. Soft, shallow curved lines suggest what? Why do you think? Soft, shallow curved lines suggest comfort, safety and relaxation because they are found in comforting objects such as blankets.

9. These lines suggest confusion and turbulence? Why do you think? Deep, acute curved lines suggest turbulence and confusion because they appear erratic and have no set direction.

10. What element defines a specific area of space? What is the difference between two dimensional shapes and three dimensional shapes? Shapes define a specific area of space. A two dimensional object has width and height while a three dimensional shape has width, height, and depth.

11. Describe the difference between geometric and organic shapes. Geometric shapes are structured and symmetrical while organic shapes have fluid and irregular shapes. 

12. What are abstract shapes? Abstract shapes are stylized or simplified versions of natural shapes that are used to convey an idea. 

13. Which basic shape projects and attitude of honesty and equality? Squares project an attitude of honesty and equality.

14. What do triangles suggest? Triangles suggest action or stability if they are shaped like a pyramid. 

15. Circles convey what feelings of what? Circles convey feelings of protection or infinity.

16. Describe positive space and negative space? What is texture? Incorporating texture into a design can help do what? What is value? Positive space is the area that contains all the elements of design while negative space is the empty area around them that brings attention to the used elements. Texture is the feeling of a surface and can either be physical or simulated. Incorporating texture into a design helps create a feelings of richness and depth. Value is the contrast between black and white. 

17. What is another name for value? What can the element of color do when incorporated into a design? Another name for value is tone. Color can create images, attract attention, and identify objects in a composition when incorporated with other elements.
